Studs and Duds from Falcons' prime-time loss to the Chiefs

 

After three weeks, the Atlanta Falcons’ 1-2 start raises more questions than answers. Despite having one of the league’s easiest schedules, the early games were expected to be tough. In Week 3, the Falcons came close to upsetting the Kansas City Chiefs, but couldn’t seal the deal.
Facing a critical fourth down with the game on the line, Atlanta needed just one yard. Instead, the Chiefs defense made the stop in front of a national audience on Sunday night. Simmons made history by snagging his sixth career interception off Patrick Mahomes, setting an NFL record. Beyond that, the Pro Bowl safety played a crucial role in preparing the defense, alerting his teammates to key tendencies in the Chiefs’ offense. Overall, the defense held up well, and Simmons set the tone with a red zone pick early in the game. It’s still early in the season, but the play of Simmons, Jessie Bates, and Atlanta’s secondary is a promising sign. Simmons now has 31 career interceptions, six of them against Mahomes.

 
Troy Andersen was everywhere, leading both teams with 12 tackles (seven solo). While the Falcons defense had a few lapses, that’s to be expected against an offense as potent as Kansas City’s. Andersen and Kaden Elliss have built strong chemistry, and Andersen, a former second-round pick, showcased his mix of toughness and athleticism. With Nate Landman on injured reserve, it’s encouraging to see Andersen step up.
