Who is ahead in the US election polls, Harris or Trump

The next President of the United States will be decided in the upcoming election on November 5th.Initially, it was expected to be a close race between current President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump. However, in July, Biden withdrew from the race and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris.Since then, both the Democratic and Republican camps have ramped up their campaigns in support of their respective candidates.

On Tuesday, Ms. Harris and Mr. Trump are scheduled to participate in a televised debate. Both candidates have reportedly completed their preparations for the debate.But the big question remains: What will be the final outcome of the election? Will American citizens choose a woman as their President for the first time, or will they give Democratic candidate Donald Trump a second term in office?

What do the polls say? At the beginning of the year, Republican candidate Mr. Trump was trailing in the race. However, he gained significant momentum after President Biden stumbled during a televised debate in June.Although the Democrats replaced Mr. Biden with Ms. Harris, analysts initially suggested this wouldn’t drastically change the race.But a recent poll tells a different story.According to a survey by ABC News, Ms. Harris now holds a slight lead over Mr. Trump in terms of public support.Following her party's convention in Chicago in August, she gained the support of about 47% of voters. At that August 22 convention, Ms. Harris promised to lead Americans "on a new path forward."Meanwhile, Mr. Trump has around 44% support. Even after fellow Republican candidate Robert F. Kennedy withdrew from the race on August 23 and endorsed the former President, Trump’s poll numbers didn’t show significant change.

Another poll, conducted jointly by The New York Times and Siena College and released last Sunday, shows a different result.According to this poll, 78-year-old Mr. Trump is slightly ahead with 48 points, while Ms. Harris trails by just one point.Among the states, the 59-year-old Democratic candidate Ms. Harris is narrowly leading in key battleground states like Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.
