Legendary American actor James Earl Jones, best known for his iconic portrayal of Darth Vader's voice in "Star Wars," has passed away at 93. His agent, Barry McPherson, confirmed that Jones died peacefully early Monday morning, surrounded by his family and loved ones.Throughout his remarkable career, Jones graced the screen in numerous films, including "Field of Dreams," "Coming to America," "Conan the Barbarian," and "The Lion King." Yet, he will forever be remembered for his deep, unmistakable voice as the villain Darth Vader in the "Star Wars" saga.Mark Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader's son in the franchise, honored Jones with a touching tribute, sharing, "RIP Dad" alongside a broken heart emoji, paying homage to Jones’ unforgettable role. Over the span of his career, Jones earned numerous accolades, including three Tony Awards, two Emmys, a Grammy, and, in 2011, an Academy Award for lifetime achievement.
In 1971, Jones became only the second Black actor, following Sidney Poitier, to be nominated for an Oscar in the Best Actor category. "Star Trek" actor LeVar Burton was among the first to pay tribute to Jones, stating, "There will never be another with his unique blend of talent and grace." Fellow actor Colman Domingo also honored him, saying, "Thank you, James Earl Jones, for everything. You were a master of our craft, and we stand on your shoulders.
