Columbus Blue Jackets winger Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew were tragically killed on Thursday after being struck by a vehicle while cycling in New Jersey, according to a statement released by the New Jersey State Police on Friday. Johnny Gaudreau was 31 years old, and Matthew was 29. Police reported that the incident occurred when the driver of a Jeep Grand Cherokee attempted to pass an SUV on the right, which had moved over to allow the two cyclists to pass. The Jeep struck the Gaudreaus from behind, causing fatal injuries. The accident took place in Oldmans Township, New Jersey, at 8:19 p.m. The driver, who is suspected of being under the influence of alcohol, has been charged with two counts of death by auto. The investigation is ongoing. In a statement on social media, the Blue Jackets described the Gaudreaus' deaths as an "unimaginable tragedy."
