Two months before the U.S. presidential election, the Trump camp finds relief. Former President and Republican Party candidate Donald Trump has been acquitted of two criminal charges. A Georgia judge has dismissed two criminal cases against Trump related to interference in the 2020 election and another case against his allies. Fulton County Judge Scott McAfee stated that state prosecutors do not have the authority to bring charges related to false documents filed in federal court. McAfee allowed the remaining parts of the case, including eight charges against Trump, to proceed. Trump and 14 co-defendants are accused of scheming to overturn his 2020 election loss in Georgia.
In Georgia, Republican candidate and then-President Donald Trump had a closely contested battle with Democratic candidate Joe Biden. The results were delayed, and eventually, Biden won by 12,000 votes. Trump has since claimed that there was fraud in the counting process. As a result, 13 charges were brought against Trump in Georgia, including violating Georgia's anti-racketeering law, breaching an oath by a public official, conspiracy to commit fraud, and making false statements.
